The Fruit of The Spirit
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 meekness, temperance; against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts
The fruit of the Spirit. The manifested evidence of the spiritual condition. It is written in the book of Matthew 12:33 that a tree is known by its fruit. Obviously we see this in nature everyday. if you see oranges growing from a tree, you know its an orange tree. You'll never see pecans growing from that same tree. Likewise, if we see in a person's life the fruit of the Spirit active, we know that person has a good relationship with the Lord. This person will not likely indulge in such things as fornication or drunkenness.
Not that men (or women) are entirely perfect. We all, on occasion, slip from our focus on Christ. That's why there is God's grace and mercy. We, as humans, need such mercy because we are not yet perfect.
More on that in another study.
So, let's take a look at each of the fruit individually.(I am one who likes to take things apart and see how they all work together as an efficient operation.) First of all, and interesting , I think, to note is that the reference the author is making here is not "the fruits of the Spirit", but the Fruit...of the Spirit. A singular substance, not individual pieces. For if you a person is lacking in one, perhaps the life needs deeper examination as to why a particular area is spotted...possibly bruised, and requires healing.
On to part 1: Love.
